"Circles of Conversation" Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia June 3-5, 2019
Vancouver 2019
The 2019 meeting of the Canadian Law and Society Association will take place June 3-5, 2019 at the University of British Columbia on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) territory. The conference will be held under the umbrella of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences and in association with the annual conference of the Canadian Association of Law Teachers. The call for papers is now closed. The program is here.
You must hold a membership in the CLSA to participate in the conference.
The Congress registration website is now available, here. Information about Congress's overall program is here. Congress registration fees do not include membership in the CLSA.
Please note: CALT registration fees may include an annual membership. If you register for both organizations, you may receive a message that indicates you have paid both registration fees and membership fees. This notice only applies to CALT. CLSA membership fees are separate. Congress is investigating fixing this messaging problem.
Banquet: The banquet will be held jointly with CALT on June 5 at Allard Hall. Please purchase your tickets through the Congress website BEFORE MAY 7. We then have to provide numbers to the caterers. Banquet tickets are $45 for students and $75 for others.
Childcare: A subsidy of up to $350 CAD for the cost of childcare may be available for registered presenters, chairs or participants at the conference. Only one parent of a child or children may apply for a grant. Applications must be made by May 15. If the CLSA receives more claims than it has available for childcare expenses, preference may be given to early career applicants or those with lower incomes.
Allowable expenses:
Daycare expenses in Vancouver during the conference
Extra daycare expenses at home incurred because the primary caregiver was attending the meeting (for example, overtime at a daycare centre, cost of a sitter for extended hours, etc.)
Expenses incurred in bringing a babysitter (or family member acting as caregiver) to the meeting or to care for the child at home
Non-allowable expenses:
Meals, on-site transportation, tickets to museums or attractions; routine child-care expenses (nanny, babysitter, after-school care) unrelated to the applicant's attendance at the conference
travel or other expenses related to the attendee's own participation in the conference
travel expenses for the child or children to the conference
Reimbursement may be requested for eligible expenses up to the maximum amount of the grant. Expenses in excess of the award amount must be borne by the individual participant. Each applicant must submit a claim and receipts to[email protected]before July 31, 2019. Applicants are not eligible for reimbursement of expenses that are being covered from other sources.
The CLSA makes no recommendations regarding childcare options in Vancouver.
